ABOUT

Lightcap for Kansas is a political campaign focused on bringing positive change to our district. We believe that our community needs a dependable and unwavering leader who can get things done for Kansans. Our campaign is dedicated to serving the people of Kansas and working towards a brighter future for all.

Jacquie was born in Hiawatha, Kansas, the youngest of four children, and moved to Topeka when she was seven years old. Her first home in Topeka was near 53rd & Wanamaker, in the heart of House District 52. She ended up living “in town,” graduating from Topeka West. The value of education was instilled in her from a young age as she comes from three generations of public school teachers, including both of her parents.

Jacquie left Kansas to attend Oklahoma Baptist University and also happened to meet her future husband on the first day of their freshman year at Welcome Week! Graduating with a degree in public relations, Jacquie has used those skills at a small town newspaper, an advertising agency, an elementary school library, and a local, independent bookstore, for starters. Eventually finding her home in the nonprofit world, Jacquie currently works as Volunteer Coordinator for the United Way of Kaw Valley.

After circling Kansas for 25 years, Jacquie and Torey chose to make Topeka their home in 2015, this time with their two children in tow. They recently celebrated 31 years of marriage. Torey serves as Dean of Grace Episcopal Cathedral, their son is a second-year student at K-State, and their daughter is a junior at Washburn Rural High School.

Since first serving as a candy striper at Stormont Vail Hospital as a teenager, volunteering has been an integral part of Jacquie’s life. Her volunteer resume includes PTOs, classroom and library volunteer, various roles at her church, with the local and state levels of the League of Women Voters, as a governor-appointed member of the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board, and as a member of the USD 437 Auburn-Washburn School Board.

In her spare time, Jacquie enjoys reading, listening to podcasts about history and government, catching the latest play at one of the many live theatres in town, and spending time with her family.
